Dorming: Loki Court A53
Ryle's finished grumping his way through his awkward teenage years, and much to his dismay, doesn't fully fill out his new height. At 5'10", Ryle still has the long limbs and thin muscles he's gained from his teenage years of archery and uncomfortable growth spurts, but he's since grown accustomed to their use and no longer finds difficulties with his archery. His body structure is still fragile-looking and despite all efforts to change it, will probably remain that way.
His face, at least, has made some changes with its more clearly defined features, though he still sits on the border of boyishness. His dark brown hair has been lightened by constant exposure to the sun and is kept long and feathered out of habit or laziness. His sharp green eyes are inherited from his mother and the constant frowns on his face are a remainder from his childhood. Ryle's most often seen in his customary long-sleeve shirts and turtlenecks coupled with jeans, though scarves are a favorite accessory.
On the back of his left hand is a nasty scar from an archery accident a few years back, which he often rubs at when he’s feeling nervous. His left ear is also pierced and he's been wearing the same earring for nearly four years.
His PB is Katsuragi Ryou from the manga Penguin Revolution.
Though quite the little terror as a child and pre-teen, the Ryle of today is a young, bitter man with just a few hints of maturity around the edges. At the most, he can be rude and snappy, losing all sense of maturity and falling back onto the age-old opinion of "that's stupid". His a negative view on life is a big factor of this, as the man rather openly sees and points out the faults in everything even when in a good mood. But he's also finally opened up to learning how to accept the world for how it is, defects and all, and live on with it, instead of sulkily staying in the past. It's a tricky road for him, given that he still rather childishly avoids things he doesn't like, but he's getting there.
A good part of Ryle's personality stems from his own insecurities. He knows his own flaws and he knows that things could possibly be a little better if he just changed, but his stubbornness won't let him. With everything else so off in the world, his own imperfection looks a little less worse. Change in particular makes him the most uncomfortable; taken out of his world of black and white, Ryle becomes the same awkward teenager he hated being in high school, complete with spazzing, yelling, and name calling. One thing that really sets him off is the term "cute" and any application of that word to him. More often than not, he'll pop a fuse at anyone who calls him that. Soon after, the same man can be seen sulking and pouting over it in his room. It's a part of his "charm".
The biggest step forward Ryle's made in terms of growing up is his newly developed habit to think and analyze. Previously, he'd been the sort of person to take things at face value, but he's since developed a sharp eye for detail and a quick brain and mouth for handling situations. It's not something he notices nor is aware of, but this development shows that Ryle has matured from the boy he used to be, although not by much.Born a boisterous baby boy, the fifth in the family, the joyous mood marking Ryle's birth was soon painted over with the death of his mother two weeks after his birth, due to complications during his birth. Left in the hands of his older brothers to raise him, Ryle's childhood was a very confusing and hectic one, as all of his brothers and his father were quite busy living their own lives. It was the fourth brother, Nathan, who stepped up the most to take care of his younger brother, despite being only a couple of years older than the newborn. He also taught Ryle archery, the only thing the young boy ever really seemed to take an interest in. Their other brothers, on the other hand, began distancing themselves from the family, dealing with the grief of their mother's death on their own. However, with as much love and care Nathan gave to his little brother, Ryle seemed to only respond with a crankiness of unknown origin and on Ryle's eighth birthday, Nathan died in a car accident, just an hour after Ryle had told him to drop dead.
Shaken up by Nathan's death, Ryle retreated further into his surly behavior and though his other brothers tried connecting with the child, it was a tiring and very unrewarding process. Stability of sorts came at the age of ten, when his father remarried to a young woman named Jen, who was taken with the young boy and treated him as if she were his own. Her only own. Ryle was absolutely smothered by his new mother whose near obsessive behavior towards her stepson was merely regarded as a mother's joy by his father. Another of his bothers died just before Ryle started high school in a plane crash and his father was hospitalized due to an unidentifiable illness. With this, Jen stepped up as the head of the family and with the financial support of Ryle's remaining two brothers, took care of both her husband and her son. Ryle, on the other hand, continued to show little sign of grief for his family members and remained as bitchy as ever.
Just a year after Ryle entered high school, his stepmother hired a personal tutor for the boy, fearing the continuing decline of his grades since middle school would never get him into college. His tutor, a woman nearly ten years older than himself, was the person who altered Ryle's own view on the world and the people in it. Despite the fact that they spent most of their time snipping at each other, Ryle was taken by her stoically carefree way of living and she was- well she thought he was a great toy to play with. A one-way crush was formed and while both were quite aware of it, neither acknowledged its existence. Ryle's grades were going up, and his general personality was improving as well, but his mother, slowly becoming more and more obsessed with her son, had been regretting her decision for months. When Ryle's father passed away at the end of Ryle's second year in high school, Ryle pulled further away from his family and closer to his tutor, something his stepmother couldn't overlook.
Without his knowledge, Jen asked Ryle's tutor to leave and she did. The only trace of her existence in Ryle's life was an earring she'd worn for as long as Ryle had known her, the presence of which Ryle immediately hid from his stepmother. Rather than getting her stepson back, Ryle distanced himself even further from his family and demanded to be sent to a school where he could dorm, with the threat that he'd run away if he couldn't. His stepmother, though craving time and attetion from her stepson, agreed to it and allowed him to go to Countshire. She does, however, send him e-mails everyday and packages once a week.
Within his first week at school, Ryle pierced his ear and now wears the earring he'd received all the time, but hasn't contacted his older tutor since she left. Nor has he received any contact from her.

Ryle still studies archery and is damn good at it now, but it remains a passing hobby that he doesn't like sharing with others. And despite randomly picking Fine Art as his major, he's got a natural talent for art in general. If only he could earnestly apply himself to it.
